I never set out to become a Fractional CEO or a business coach for small businesses. My journey started like many entrepreneurs: scrappy, uncertain, and fueled by grit.

Back in 2008, I landed a new role in recruiting, just as the market crashed. As the last one in, I was the first one out. That experience taught me resilience and gave me skills I still use today. To stay afloat, I took a customer service job at a plumbing company. One leader saw potential in me, and soon I was in the field as a sales rep.

That role changed everything. Within a couple of years, I helped grow the company significantly and even was part of the addition of HVAC services. But with endless hours and burnout setting in, I knew something had to give. My wife and I were talking about starting a family, and I couldn’t keep living at that pace.

Learning to Build and Scale Businesses

A close friend invited me to join his business, and it turned out to be a defining chapter. I was his first successful sales hire, and within a year, we grew so fast that we needed a team. Over the next 12+ years, I helped build out leadership roles, operations, a marketing team, area managers, and a full sales force.

Together, we transformed a flatlined business into one with serious momentum. Eventually, the plan was for me to buy the company. But when private equity came knocking, my friend chose to sell. That was the turning point where I realized my next chapter wasn’t being minority owner. It was time to build my own.

That’s how JW Innovative Coaching was born: a place where I help business owners cut the chaos, reclaim their time, and scale sustainably.

Faith, Family, and Freedom

Who I am goes beyond business. My faith in Christ shapes how I lead, parent, and serve. I’m a husband and dad first. My wife homeschools our kids, and together we run our family homestead, Freedom River Acres, where we raise chickens, keep bees, and live simply and intentionally. I also get the luxury of being able to hunt in my own backyard. Living on 52 acres has been a shift, but definitely one for the better. Fitness and discipline also play a big role in keeping me sharp mentally, physically, and spiritually.

At the end of the day, I’ve lived through the chaos, scaled businesses past it, and discovered a better way forward. That’s the perspective I bring to every coaching client.
